![]() ![]() ![]() But, take the time and you'll be rewarded with a stable experience. As is often the case when playing older games on newer systems, a little work is sometimes needed to get games running. If you want to chuck a game in a system and play, you'll be wanting a console, PCs are different. Lots of people seem to be under the false pretence that SC4 is somehow buggy and unstable, this couldn't be further from reality. ![]() There are literally no differences in terms of the game experience between this and any other Digital or (patched) Disk-Based release. exe has only been modifed such that the two patches for the CD version are incorporated, the on-disk DRM is removed, then Steam's own DRM is added. WINEDEBUG=-all wine C:\\Program\ Files\\Maxis\\SimCity\ 4\ Deluxe\\Apps\\SimCity\ 4.The Steam. Here's the command that I use to start simcity 4: I personally use -d:software, which to me works best and is most playable, but you can try opengl if you want. Wine will have no verbosity and will not display any debugging information.Īlso, adding -d:opengl to the end of the launcher can increase performace, but TBH I don't notice that much of a difference between that and software rendering. Since most user do not have a clue about debugging wine, you can set the following variable: Gdi - Use GDI to draw on the screen (slow but reliable) (default) opengl - Use OpenGL (fast but not all programs work correctly)] Replace NNN with the amount of VRAM your card has. Open regedit with the command "wine regedit" (no quotes) to change the values. I got this from the Howto on the SC4 Rush Hour entry and it sped up mine considerably: We're very close to achieving a Platinum app here, and what an app!!!!Īlso, FYI my hardware specs are HP nx8220 laptop, P-M 1,73Ghz, 1Gb RAM, ATI Mobility 圆00 64Mb (running with FGLRX drivers) I have to say I'm already very impressed with the game compatibility in Wine! run the game in 3D software mode (may try later) compare performance with the game running in Windows XP starting the installation from the CD with the CD drive previously set up in Wine Configuration I was unable to test the suggested Registry performance tweaks for Wine's Direct3D as I was unable to find the mentioned HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Wine\Direct3D in my registry. Pseudo 3D animations (fog, smoke, sky rockets) work fine though. In-game 3D object animations (vehicles, wind turbines, construction sites) work but keep flickering constantly to the point that it becomes a bit ugly and annoying. Running the OpenGL command parameter corrupts the graphics and makes the game unplayable, so I can't say if it works better or not. ![]() Installation comments from above belong in here as well. Works great with the 1.1.638.0 SKU1 update from wide screen (with necessary command line parameters applied) all functions are usable (I managed to obliterate the Tutorial City in God Mode and create a 20.000 sims city in 2hr!) Even if one manages to eject the CD, the installer won't recognize the 2nd disk after inserting it. If installation is started from the CD, then it will lock the disk and a reboot or umount -l is needed to eject the drive. Installation works, but I needed to copy the first disk to the HDD. ![]()
